Announcements about MaplePrimes and Maplesoft

We have just released the MapleSim Hydraulics Library from Modelon, a new add-on component library for advanced hydraulics modeling.  The result of a technology partnership with Modelon, the renowned developer of high-quality Modelica libraries, the MapleSim Hydraulics Library from Modelon allows you to:

  • Seamlessly combine hydraulic subsystems and components with other domains in a single modeling environment
    • Choose from over 150 components...

We’re conducting some market research, and we’re hoping some of you can help.  We’re interested in learning more about why people choose Maple over other systems, in particular Mathematica.  We know why we like Maple, but we’re interested in knowing why you do.

We’d love to hear from anyone who either compared both systems before choosing Maple or who used to be a Mathematica user and has now switched to Maple.  What led you to make your decision?

Congratulations to Christian Bär, a professor at the University of Potsdam, for winning the first individual prize of The Möbius App Challenge! Christian will be receiving a MacBook Air for his app The Cosmic Travel Planner.

Maplesoft launched the Möbius App Challenge earlier this year to give Maplesoft community members the opportunity to get involved in the creation of Möbius Apps. This contest seeks to challenge users to create Math Apps using Maple, submit them to The Möbius Project website, then award the most useful, creative, and effective submissions. Finalists from the individual level challenge are chosen four times a year, so make sure to enter the next round of the challenge for your chance at a Maplesoft prize pack!

For full contest details and to enter, please visit: http://www.maplesoft.com/lp/mobius/index.aspx.

Voting is open for the first individual prize to be awarded as part of the Möbius App Challenge.  The winner will receive a MacBook Air!

Here are the finalist Apps:

An update to Maple 17 is now available. Maple 17.01 includes improvements to the mathematics, interface, and plotting capabilities of Maple, including:

  • An expansion of the  video component to provide new start/stop time index controls and audio file support, as well as improved ability to play video files from a URL
  • Extended MATLAB® connectivity to include MATLAB® R2013a
  • Improvements to printing and resizing code edit regions

Every year at Maplesoft, we continue to pursue our mission of making powerful computational mathematics easily accessible within a friendly environment. Maple 17 is no exception: Hundreds of new algorithms, from differential equations to statistics to signal processing, continue to keep Maple ahead of the curve. At the same time, a wealth...

Never before has the educational landscape been changing as fast as it is today, driven by a new generation of students who are growing up with instant access to on-demand information. This generation relies on ubiquitous network access and takes for granted technology that permeates every aspect of their lives. Phones and tablets are everyday companions and are used to connect with their peers, take classroom notes and research school projects. Beyond being mere consumers...

A powerful approach to the teaching and learning of mathematics for students of science and engineering has been made practical through the development of powerful general mathematical software, of which Maple provides the least steep learning curve.  Accordingly, it is timely to produce an interactive electronic textbook that, for students of chemistry -- also biochemistry and chemical engineering, has as its objective in part I,
Mathematics for...

Well, it’s been more than 17 years since First Leaves: A Tutorial Introduction to Maple V was first published as a hardcover book, and since that time, Maple, the Maple documentation, and the world have undergone huge changes.   We are now in a state where all our documentation is available electronically, including both in-product and online; where the vast majority of our customers receive our products electronically and never even see the printed...

We have added over 2000 new questions to the Maple T.A. Content Center.   Content comes from the University of Guelph, the University of Waterloo, the University of Portsmouth, and Keele University. Topics include calculus, statistics, engineering mathematics

We have just released Maple 16.02 and MapleSim 6.01.

Maple 16.02 includes updated platform support, enhancements to the Physics package (including fixes to problems first reported on MaplePrimes - thank-you),  connectivity to the latest version of MATLAB and Visual Studio , as well as some efficiency and interface improvements. See the Maple 16.02 update page for more details.

We have just released Teaching Calculus with Maple: A Complete Kit.  Leveraging both Maple and Maple T.A., Teaching Calculus with Maple includes lecture notes, student worksheets, Maple demonstrations, Maple T.A. homework, and more – everything you need to teach Calculus 1 and Calculus 2.  Teaching Calculus with Maple  was developed at the University of Guelph under the leadership of an award-winning teacher and field-tested in classes with hundreds of students.

We have just released a free collection of Maple and MapleSim classroom materials that helps bring modern technology to any introductory course in control design. This collection includes interactive classroom demonstrations that illustrate key concepts; lab projects and assignment questions; and example models ready to be explored.  It’s been designed primarily for instructors, but students should find much of it useful, too.

MapleNet 16 is now available. New features include the ability to programmatically execute Maple documents from your MapleNet application and support for the Symbolic Computation Software Composability Protocol (SCSCP) framework, which promotes interoperability with special-purpose computer algebra systems. For more details, see What’s New in MapleNet 16.
