Thanks for the help...I swear I tried the simplify(...,symbolic) option and it din't work Now it does... Oh well I think I'm learning more about using maple every day!

I used the palette to insert the placeholder, then I double clicked on the placeholder to input the data. Looks like I need to change the interface as Scott suggests
