You´re right of course, I did not make myself clear.

There is an underlying probability (lambda) which is not really a variable but I want to do some comparative statics to analyze lambda. So I cant put that under any assumptions.

I don´t know whether I have the most elegant mathematical solution to my problem but it works for me.

 

Is there anything else I need to clarify?

Only thing left here are the brackets, there´s still the square and curly brackets surrounding the term... [{...}]

I can´t use your suggestion of simplify(pw) assuming(...) because that value of q[S] is still dependent of another variable (just not showing up here anymore).

 

How would I use PiecewiseTools:-ToList? Couldn´t find that or don´t know how to use it... (Btw, I´m using Maple 13.)
