Here's the final answer on how to load this package on a OS X El Capitan, Mack Book Pro, Maple 2016:

Finder->Go->Computer->Macintosh HD->Library->Frameworks->maple.framework->Versions->2016->lib-> Copy and paste from http://www.maplesoft.com/applications/view.aspx?SID=101333 download the following files: DirectSearch.mla, DirectSearch.help, DirectSearch.hdb in lib.

That's it!

@acer

I called Maple Tech Support this morning. They "walked me through" the proceedure. Unfortunately I cannot remember all the steps but basically you start by going to: Finder->Go->Computer->Macintosh HD->..... For Maple 2016 on a MacBook Pro. Wish I could remember all the steps in case someone else runs into this problem. The "DirectSearch" program runs fine and I solved a sample problem that Tech Support sent me Friday. Unfortunately, I can't get my particular problem to solve yet. I have to de-bug it and/or rewrite the equations.

Thanks Christopher and everyone else!

Some of the "README.txt" instructions seem a bit dicey to me so I'm going to wait till tomorrow and call Maple Tech Support. I don't want to risk botching something up in the program.

Hi Christopher,

 I followed your instructions: file -> New -> Document, and entered the Libname; and the following output was returned in blue:

libname;
"/Library/Frameworks/Maple.framework/Versions/2016/lib"

What's next?

Where exactly in Maple? "Search for help, tasks, apps...", "worksheet", "classic worksheet"? Sorry, I'm really lost on this one!

Christopher,

Where exactly would I be typing libname? Remember, this is Mac OS X; not Windows. Do I go into the Finder - Applications - Maple 2016 file? This doesn't work. Do I open Maple 2016 and type libname there, and, if so, where?

Thanks acer for your reply. Unfortunately I'm only a novice with these computers. I'm a leftover from the punch card FORTRAN era, a dinosaur. I looked up GUI (Graphic User Interface) and still don't know what it is! Is it the Maple program itself? I am not confident enough to use your instructions. I would need a _simple_ step-by-step procedure. The above information from Maplesoft was sent to me early Friday evening, a week after I submitted my question to Maplesoft Tech Support. I tried to call them shortly after receiving the information, however, they had already "rolled up their sidewalk" for the weekend.

I would really like to install this DirectSearch routine and use it on a problem that I'm working on, but I don't have the confidence to do it correctly. I've been waiting a long time from Tech Support already; however, I'll probably have to wait till Monday, when they reopen.

Thanks!

Bill
