sorry

I meant I picked G=0.15

first of all, thanks

I'm new to maple, but I'll give those suggestions a try

I got the expression for l(a,q) by taking the derivative of the following and setting it equal to zero and solving for l

(q*l^(1/3))*q*(1-l)^(1/2)+((1-a)^(1/2))*(1-q*l^(1/3))*q*(1-l)^(1/2)+(a^(1.2))*(1-q*(1-l)^(1/2))*q*l^(1/3)

or if not that (I was trying other things), something similar

I was going to just give up and change it to

(q*l^(1/3)*q)*(1-l)^(1/2)+(1-a)*(1-q*l^(1/3))*q*(1-l)^(1/2)+a*(1-q*(1-l)^(1/2))*q*l^(1/3)

(ie. the utility function is linear and not concave)

because the expression were getting too huge and maple was giving up (as far as I could tell)

but you say I might not have to, and that maple with be able to find an optimal a?

(by the way, I am planning on making the objective function, which includes the term l(a,q) slightly longer and more complicated-- ie. involve some integers with l(a,q) inside multiplied by the expression I said I wanted last time (it's a std dev.))
