@tomleslie In support of the points made by acer 11306, here are two other reasons:

1-I am extracting data from a legecy tool, data was written in .m file and now I have to evaluate that data.

2-I am not sure if other formats can handle variables with non-standard units ( e.g. [m]^(2/7) ).

@acer Your code updates the variables to those in the .m file and overwrites existing ones with the value from .m file. Many thanks.(Winx64)
