Actually I had tried something similar. I "Get info" on the document and tell it to open with Maple. It works on individual documents only--even Maple 4 (mac) documents without file extensions. It changes it to a 9.5 document with correct icon. If I do "Change All" then I lose the association--the icon is changed back. If I follow your instructions: open with Maple, it will, but if I then do a Get Info and Change All it goes back to a text file. Roger
