Thanks for the comments. here is my reply.

The three are a class of backward differentiation formulae (BDF) of order two which were obtained from one continuous scheme evaluated at various points. eg, at xn+2 while the first derivative was evaluated at both xn and xn+1/2. this is in an attempt to avoid starters, hence we want to use the three schemes simultaneously to solve the equation and compare with existing methods.

in equation 1, n+1 is a subscript, i.e. yn+1, also n+1/2, n and n+2

in eq 2, n+2, n+1, n and n+2 are all subcripts and in eq 3,

n+1, n and n+1/2 are also subcripts.
