Can anyone explain the false return on the last line?  MAPLE seems to recognize the simplified expression on the next to last line, but when substituted into the expression for Q2 MAPLE does not seem to recognize the simplification.

I seem to recall from my undergrad days that a cubic polynomial could be readily factored (even analytically) if you appy the assumption that you will have 1 REAL root & the other 2 are complex conjugate pairs.  I cannot seem to find my old lecture notes & see nothing on the web on this matter.

Anyone here have any knowledge on this subject?  I have played with MATLAB & altered the polynomial coefficients such that whenever complex roots do crop...

M = (1+y^2)/((x^2+1)*(1+z^2))

Anyone have any background knowledge on the above 3D polynomial?  Assuming all 4 parameters are real I ploteed some 3D plots & some interesting surfaces are generated.  I imagine this has some physical application.  If anyone has some knowledge on this please respond & include any references you might know of.

I had MAPLE 12 on WINDOWS VISTA machine and the harddrive crashed.  Now I have a newer WINDOWS 7 machine & would lke to put my individually licensed MAPLE 12 on this machine.  I do not have a DVD because the original installation occurred via MAPLESOFT website if I recall correctly.

Can anyone direct me as to what I need to do?

Has anyone seen this form of a nonlinear equation with respect to X, but linear with respect to Y & Z?  I provided a contour plot within the region for all 3 variables between -2 & 2.  The plot is actually Z*conjugate(Z) so that the magnitude is above ZERO.  If I am correct I may have seen this before in orbital mechanics, but my undergrad years are a bit...
