I went through all steps provided at Maple help and reached the point where Java is reinstalled.

I downloaded Java installer for Mac jre-8u261-macosx-x64.dmg at https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/javase-jre8-downloads.html (I had to create an account there in order to download it). Then, installed it and restarted the Macbook once again, and it seems to be working right now. 

Is this the solution and how the problem was supporsed to be resolved?
