Suppose a have a file "test.txt" with the following single line of code (intentionally missing the "end if"):

When I run "maple test.txt" from the command line, it shows the following and quits:

But it quits with exit code 0, despite the syntax error. Is there a way to get Maple to quit with a nonzero exit code when there is a syntax error?

What I would actually like is that if Maple encounters any error at all (syntax or otherwise), the script immediately ceases execution and exits with a nonzero error code. When the error is NOT a syntax error, I can at least accomplish this by wrapping the entire script in a try/catch block. But I'm hoping there's a better way.

As a Maple user for 10+ years, I've had plenty of stack limit errors, pretty much all of them my fault. But I am currently experiencing a very unusual one after updating my Mac from Maple 2019 to Maple 2021.2.

I am running a long script to fetch json data from a url, parse it, and do a bunch of analysis. In most cases it works fine, but some cases give either an "Execution stopped: Stack limit reached." error, or the error "Error, (in type/polynom) result from type `algfun` must be true or false". Both are being caused by calling the gfun:-ratpolytocoeff command.

I kind of think some internal memory of Maple is being accidentally overwritten because I can cause the error to occur or not occur by adding / commenting out random lines of code that have nothing to do with the part of the code causing the problem. I've managed to find a fairly small script that causes the problem to occur:

If I remove ANY of these lines of code, there is no longer any problem, which is very strange because, for example, I'm not using the PolynomialIdeals package anywhere in the script. This particular script works fine on a Linux machine running 2021.0, but yet I am having similar problems on that machine with other cases.

Here's a slightly simpler example in which gfun[ratpolytocoeff] induces a "division by zero" error ("Error, (in convert/fullparfrac/normal_only) numeric exception: division by zero"):

Is this an internal Maple bug? Is there any workaround? I am pulling my hair out and would be very grateful for any help.

I'm writing an algorithm that takes a while and I'd like to print status messages periodically. I typically use the command line interface, and this is no problem. I just do a printf whenever I need.

However, some people who will use this code prefer to use the GUI, and I've found that the GUI tends to buffer the output from printf, printing 20-30 printf statements in clumps instead of as they're called. Is there any remedy for this?

As part of a project, I am numerically estimating the roots of many large polynomials. Occasionally, "fsolve" fails with strange errors related to "fsolve/refine2". Searches for these error messages have turned up nothing.

I've inluded the code below that causes the error on Maple 18.02. I apologize for the polynomial in question being so long, it's the shortest example I have. The error it generates is:

Is this a bug? Or am I missing some fsolve option to prevent this? Note that it only happens when the "complex" flag is used.
