MaplePrimes Activity

These are questions asked by riffleb13

There are two parts to this question:

A) Graph the function and approximate any absolute extrema on the given interval.

B) Find any critical numbers, and then use them to find any absolute extrema not located at the endpoints.

Both of these parts have to be done using Maple. I tried asking my teacher again if she could help me through this problem,...

I'm supposed to do the following. I tried to ask my teacher how I could go about doing it and she told me to just figure it out. I am supposed to find the linear and quadratic approximations to the function f at x=a. Then, I'm supposed to sketch the graph of the function and its lienar and quadratic approximations.

The linear approximation is:

P1(x)= f(a) + fprime(a)*(x-a)

The quadratic approximation is:

P2(x)= f(a) + fprime(a...

I have had to use Maple 17 once in the past and I have to use it for a problem in Calculus.  This problem, I have been trying to figure out how to type it in correctly to get the answer.  I know the answer since its in back of the book.  Here is the explanation w/ the problem:

"Use a computer algebra system to differentiate the function"(She wants us to use Maple.)

f(x)=((x^2-x-3)/(x^2+1))*(x^2+x+1)

in word terms, f(x)= (x squared,-x,-3)/(x squared, plus 1) ...
