figuring out tangent on the paper is straightforward, but is there any call command to find tangent of f(x,y) on plane (1,1) in maple? curruently i'm looking in maple help to see what i can come up with to do that and see if it matches my paper work, thought i might pose this question while i'm doing that

thx for any help

Although i was going to go with what Joe Riel advised with using jacobian. I've looked into maple help and thought it was pretty much straight forward case but apply it to three variable case from the two that maple help shows an example of. But also see your case, acer, and might have to look into it. I haven't yet fully learned all about partial and total derivatives, but hopefully this problem only requires the use of jacobian.

Thx for the tip up acer.

Thx Joe for helping me with jacobian matrix, i've would've never looked anywhere near this in maple help.

i might have to look into maple help to educate my self a little more, but all the examples you guys gave are great. Learned a lot. Thx
