The one in particular that did not load critical information on Maple 12 Standard GUI was this one

http://www.maplesoft.com/applications/view.aspx?SID=3763  (Heat transfer through a multilayered wall)

Classic Maple displays all the necessary equations required to execute the worksheet.  In another thread I mentioned saving the worksheet in Classic - then reloading in standard GUI which then displays fine.

I suppose the original reason I did not include the exact application was because I was afraid maplesoft would see that application as problematic for new users and consider deleting the app (which of course I do not want to happen) as a maple enthusiast that would be a nightmare seeing half the applications in the app center deleted because they are considered too old.  But obviously the old applications are still quite useful AND informative.  I probably don't have to worry about that but the idea had crossed my mind.

**edit add**  ah, it appears the standard GUI does not properly load some .mws files.  Probably something to do with unsupported .mws features in the standard GUI.  Saving the .mws files in classic to .mw files remedies the situation. **

@ Acer

I did not find out that the worksheets opened fine in Classic Maple until later.

I like the classic version of Maple, loads faster and is quicker and is more backward compatable as aparent above.  I have heard the classic interface is no longer supported ( I suppose it will not be included in Maple 17 - I could be wrong)  however it is a window for newer users to access older worksheets.  It would be a loss to loose access to older worksheets.

He should have mentioned it was the beta version. Beta versions will still have bugs although the latest beta version probably is as close as you will get to the released version since Windows 8 release date is Oct 25.  Ironically Matlab users are having trouble running Matlab on their upgraded versions of Windows 7 to 8.

Worry about it when Windows 8 is released.

So are we trying to calculate h as time passes?

The heat transfer coefficient is the heat flow over the surface area and temp difference of object with the air.  It sounds like you want h as some function of the outside surface temperature of your object as I think Preben has asked?

Whenever I type in ⊥ it gets converted to the graphic in the line but then shown as ⊥ in the graph.  Not sure how to stop it from converting while I type.

Executing your worksheet shows ⊥ in the graph instead of the graphic however this is probably Maple12 specific.

An extension to the general idea of the above would be how to access worksheets across parallel kernels

After modifying the file to run in compatability mode we just needed to add the ctl3d.dll file (not sure why it wasn't there) was in my other XP.

MapleVr3 saved files as .ms

I guess MapleVr5 version saved them as .mws

I agree, the backward compatability is actually really good.

There are in some cases where an application won't fully display itself on newer maple versions....

Hold on one second!  I just realized and tried the application in Classic Maple 12 which works fine (don't know why I didn't think of that earlier).  It just doesn't  display so well in the GUI.  I suppose if you were a user of the Classic interface you wouldn't notice it.  I use the standard GUI all the time.

And the reason for installing such an old version on a new PC?  Well, the problems just kept mounting up.
First the application didn't work in Maple12 GUI so I thought I needed to install and older version to view it properly.  Then I ran into the divide by zero overflow error, so then find an older computer where I had already installed my MapleVr3 and found out it was actually a MapleVr5 application which wouldn't run on my MapleVr3 then I started searching for an old newer version of Maple that might run the MapleVr5 app.  Didn't have Maple6 but did have Maple7 which of course worked.  Then as you can see, I just found out it would have worked perfectly fine in the Classic version.

Now it's just for the fun of trying to get MapleVr3 to work on a new PC - it should but it doesn't start so how do we do it?  Maybe messing around with the maple.ini file might help it load properly, not really sure.  Then just now I'm even pondering wether I could get the old version to work on my smartphone.  Now that would be a challenge!

Anyways I'd like to clear / fix up the divide by zero error if we could.
