Since the answers that the student has to provide in this particular instance are integers between 0 and 30 I rewrote the app so that the student enters their answers using sliders instead of text boxes in a table. I then set it up so that the sliders update some text boxes with their numbers so that the students can see what numbers they have selected, as well as updating the plot area. This works.
